Our guided hiking tour begins in the historic town of Kotor, where we set out on an unforgettable journey along the mountain trail that leads to Vrmac. The ascent takes approximately one and a half hours and follows the Kotor-facing side of the mountain. As we gradually climb higher, the narrow stone paths, once used by soldiers and shepherds, reveal panoramic glimpses of the Bay of Kotor shimmering below. Once we reach the top of Vrmac, a whole new perspective unfolds—stunning views of Tivat Bay stretch out before us, offering a breathtaking contrast to the scenery of Kotor left behind. At the summit, we take time to explore the remnants of an Austro-Hungarian fortress, a fascinating piece of history with hidden military tunnels, chambers, and passageways waiting to be discovered. The area is not only rich in history and nature but also in character—Vrmac is home to a variety of friendly animals such as goats, cats, Vietnamese pigs, and more. Many of them enjoy interacting with hikers and are always up for a gentle cuddle. As we rest at the top, there's time to enjoy a cup of coffee, take photos, and simply absorb the peace of the mountain atmosphere. If timed right, you’ll witness a spectacular sunset that paints the sky over Tivat and the open Adriatic in hues of orange and gold. When ready, we begin our descent back to Kotor following the same scenic path.
The Vrmac hiking tour is more than just a physical activity—it’s an immersive experience that combines adventure, nature, history, and local culture. It's suitable for both casual hikers and seasoned adventurers who appreciate meaningful travel moments. The path offers just enough challenge to feel rewarding, but remains accessible to most participants with moderate fitness. This tour is ideal for anyone looking to escape the crowded coastlines and explore the Boka from above. The untouched beauty of Vrmac, the authenticity of its animal residents, and the historical curiosity of the fortress make this hike truly unique. You’ll return not just with great photos, but with a genuine memory of Montenegro’s quieter, wilder side. Whether you’re a nature lover, a history enthusiast, or someone seeking a peaceful mountain escape with a view, the Vrmac hike offers the best of all worlds.
